Oil Platform Jobs – Planning For Your Future Or For Retirement Plans

So you now have your lucrative oil platform jobs. That’s great! But don’t rest on your laurels. Remember that all booms are followed by busts. Remember the example of IT and finance in the dot.com boom and bust in the 90’s. Remember the previous oil boom and bust. It will be no different this time round. But don’t panic! According to the top economists and fund managers (like the legendary Jim Rogers who has bet a large chunk of his personal wealth on the current boom in commodities like oil), this oil boom is likely to last until at least 2014.

1) Savings (401k). This means that you have quite a number of years to save up for the future. Set up your 401k (or whatever they choose to call it by the time you read this) and split up your remaining savings between government bonds and mutual funds and you will have an easy and effortless road to a decent retirement package. With the typical salary an oil worker earns, you can even hire a financial planner to give you impartial advice.

2) Further education. If you want something better than your savings account, remember that those of you working on offshore oil rigs have one very great advantage over most other workers. Not only do you have great salary, you have about 6 months of free time every year, typically spaced out in 2-week to 6-week chunks. All this time is yours to do as you will, including continuing your education, setting up your own business or investments for your future. Unlike an office worker, your 2-weeks on 2-weeks off schedule is ideal for short intense certification courses and part-time correspondence diplomas and degrees. This extra education will be useful to help you find new jobs after the oil boom ends.

3) Investments. A more risky way of spending your time and salary would be in investments. While your 401k and simple index funds give you an effortless and autopilot way to save for your retirement, you can get better returns with options trading (different from day trading) and real estate investing. Both options trading and real estate have a steep learning curve, but unlike office workers, you have more free time and an above average salary to play with. In other words, after you learn the theory from available courses, you have more money to experiment with until you learn how to do it right.

4) Business. An alternative plan would be to set up your own part-time business. Three main methods come to mind: a normal offline part-time business (perhaps run from your garage), an MLM business, or an internet marketing business (for example selling goods using eBay). If you like interacting with people, an MLM business would be good for you. If you choose to run your own small business from your garage, your local community college should have some helpful small business courses to help you get started. If you choose internet marketing, you will find a wealth of cheap online courses available. Just type in “internet marketing” or “make money online” into Google.

No matter how great your oil platform job is right now, do remember that it will not last forever. Make sure you are prepared for the eventual end of the oil boom. Don’t be caught with your pants down like so many dot.com workers.

Forex Demo Account – Good Or Bad?

Filed under: Working Platforms Articles — thailand @ 2:00 am  Tagged

A forex demo account is offered by most brokers these days, especially those who want to attract beginners. But are they really such a great deal? or do they have some hidden disadvantages that the brokers are not telling you about? Let’s take a look.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that different platforms may work in different ways in demonstration mode. Most platforms will allow some form of testing so that you can understand how they work. But when we talk about a forex demo account, we mean a system where you have a balance of virtual8945180246 funds which will increase and decrease as you trade. This allows you to test systems as well as simply getting to know the platform.

So why do brokers offer this type of virtual trading account, and should we be suspicious? Of course, they want you to be able to try out their platform. They hope that you will find it easy to use and perhaps choose their service over others for that reason. They may also hope that if you make money in your demo account, you will be more likely to invest real money with them. All of this makes natural commercial sense.

There are two things to watch out for when you sign up for a currency trading demo account. The first is whether the demo account does actually work in the same way as the real trading platform. In a few cases, it does not. Traders who are comfortable with a broker’s demo system invest money into an account only to have a big surprise, the real platform is not the same and requires a whole new learning curve. It might even be so different that a system worked out in demo mode cannot be put into practice on the live platform. So do check that out before even beginning with a demo account.

Secondly, be aware that there are some big psychological differences between trading in demo and trading for real. Beginners will happily jump into demo trading, often using high leverage and opening trades almost at random, to see if ‘it works’. Long term, this type of trading is destined to fail, but in the short term, some of those traders will profit. They could easily think that forex trading is just a matter of leaping in whenever you think prices might be about to move, without worrying too much about analysis, indicators, plans or systems. Clearly, if they switch to real trading with that mindset, they are heading for a fall.

The other problem can come up even if traders use their demo account responsibly and applying a good system with sound money management. They may not be prepared for the stress of real money trading and find that when they try to apply their system to the live market with real money, they panic and find themselves making irrational decisions.

If this happens to you, it is important not to beat yourself up. Live trading does have stresses that trading in demo mode cannot prepare you for. The answer is to start small when you move to the real market. Reduce your risk to half of what you were using in demo, or even less.

Forex demo accounts are here to stay and used wisely can be a very useful tool for the new forex trader.

India a Global Platform for Knowledge Outsourcing

Outsourcing is not new for the country like India. It was started dates back during 1960s. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is the long-term contracting out of non-core business processes to an outside provider to help achieve increased shareholder value. BPO saves precious management time and resources and allows focus while building upon core competencies. After BPO, India has now set its sights on becoming a global hub for knowledge process outsourcing (KPO). Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), a new terminology is evolved for the business related to the patents and intellectual property.

As India has the second largest English speaking scientific manpower pool in the world after the U.S. most of the Global competitors are looking forward to India to outsource their IPR needs related to patent searching, prior art search, infringement and validity search etc,. In a survey it was found that Indian graduates cost 50%+ lower than the U.S. and initial setup cost are half those in U.S. According to the Rick Wills, CEO, of Tektronix Inc.

“In India, free-market reforms are creating the world’s largest back office, transforming the country into a major force in IT, outsourcing, and critical service application delivery.”

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) study saying that KPO would grow at 46 per cent to become $17 billion sector by 2010. The BPO industry, only 26%. Global KPO pie in 2010 will be around $17 billion of which $12 billion (70%) will be outsourced to India.” Thus KPO is going to be global hub for the country like India. Areas with significant potential for KPO include pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and ICT, besides legal support, intellectual property research and design and development for automotive and aerospace industries, CII stated.

KPO involves high-end processes like valuation research, investment research, patent filing, legal and insurance claims processing, patents and prior-art search, etc. India with its knowledge base and lower costs will be leading the pack in the race for KPO businesses.

The economy of an industry is fueled by its innovation and thus there is a need to protect your innovations in order to make money from them. The firm protection of intellectual property requires a planned investment of both time and money. There are many ways by which you can protect your invention to avoid others making money from your efforts. When a company starts of thinking of a new project or going to file a patent for a newly developed product, it is suggested to conduct a state-of-art search or prior art search. This service is provided by many KPO firms in India at reasonable cost and better quality.

Thus it is assumed that KPO will be a global hub among the student in Indian in near future, with more demand for the people expert in this area.

Why the Internet is One of the Safest Business Platforms Today

So you want to start a business? Let’s see, you will need to rent, lease or buy a storefront and then purchase display racks. You will need to heat and cool the display area for customer comfort. There will be insurance to cover liability and loss and you’ll need to ensure plenty of parking so customers can get to the store easily. Oh, don’t forget any potential landscaping and snow removal you might need to take care of seasonally.

On the other hand I suppose you forget most of those issues and make your business platform an electronic one.

With an online store you don’t have to worry about parking spaces or checkout lines. You don’t have to worry about snow removal or expensive climate control. Maybe the best part is that your store can be open even when you sleep. You never have to close and shoplifting is ‘virtually’ non-existent.

As gas prices went beyond four dollars a gallon in the summer of 2008 it became clearer every day that an online store had become a consumer’s best friend. It is possible that the savings in fuel can offset any additional expenses in shipping. In many cases items can be purchased for much less in an online environment simply because ecommerce generally has much less overhead expenses.

Yes, it is possible that hackers can break into your cyber store, but they can’t take any tangible products. If you manage your security well you may not have a problem with hackers. If this is the most difficult challenge you face in cyber store ownership then you should have it pretty easy.

There remains a role for standard brick and mortar stores, but the role of online business is becoming not only more accepted it is becoming a desired part of the shopping experience.

When a customer takes his or her business online they can find locations where they can compare costs as well as similar products they may need. They can read about the product and find ways to use the product to their advantage.

If you work to optimize your site with potent knowledge-based content you will generally find that consumers reward your information with trust. That trust often translates into a purchase – even if that purchase is not made on their first visit.

When you begin to acknowledge that the startup costs for an online store are significantly less than a brick and mortar alternative and then couple that with the automation available to make your store available around the clock (including all holidays) it just makes sense to consider a new avenue of commerce.

It is true that there is a mature generation that hasn’t completely embraced online purchases, but children are learning at a much younger age how to navigate the web and they understand the value of shopping online. Someday they could be your customers – their parents may be willing to buy from you now.

The dynamics of commerce are changing and the online environment provides so many pluses that traditional and nontraditional businesses alike are finding the online world a very good place to meet shoppers.

What to Look For in Automated Forex Trading Platforms

Filed under: Working Platforms Articles — thailand @ 2:45 pm  Tagged , ,

The recent economic climate has resulted into many failed financial transactions leading to unsuccessful trades and unprofitable transactions. However, it has also resulted into other good things. One perfect outcome of the negative financial conditions is the rise of the real resilient financial institutions and the reliable tools that still performed amidst the unlikeable economic conditions.

A few forex robots have proven their worth over the financial turmoil as well. These were the features that enabled the surviving automated forex trading software to rise above the bear market downfall.

• A reliable communication backbone – This has enabled the software to be able to communicate results real-time without lapses and has instantaneously transmitted unfavorable results the fastest way possible. Because of these, the traders were immediately aware of what could be the consequences of trading in such conditions and were able to pull their money out of the market before it was too late.

• A team of real experts in currency trading – You cannot work with a team of amateurs in times of crisis. You have to make sure that you are working with reliable people to enable you to consider all aspects of the crisis and create a flawless action plan. This efficiently brought astounding results to traders who had great support teams to help them out.

• A network of reliable trading robots – Two heads are better than one. Two robots are better than one, too! What if you have four to help you out? Of course, having more enable traders to be well-informed of the market conditions, and at the same time efficiently breeze through possibilities. The more robots you have, the more assistance you can get in order to properly interpret market conditions.

• A proven team of think-tanks in both economics and software development – This matters most of you are highly dependent on trading robots. Get Known Before the Book Deal – Christina Katz Provides a Road Map For Building a Writer Platform

An aspiring author hears a lot about creating a platform. But what is a platform? And why do you need to create one? In Get Known Before the Book Deal, Christina Katz describes what a platform is and how you can create a strong one.

With tightening publishing budgets, writing a book is not enough to get you published, even if it is a great book. Publishers must be convinced that your book is marketable, and you increase your marketability by creating a strong platform.

What Is a Platform?

Most articles and blog posts about author platforms talk about web presence. But Katz argues that there is much more to platform than a website. In fact, she doesn’t discuss websites in depth until chapter 34.

A platform, she says, is “all the ways you are visible and appealing to your future, potential, or actual readership.” Have you written articles on your topic? Have you presented on your topic at workshops or conferences? Do you teach a class on your topic? These activities are key elements of your platform, but even they are not where you begin.

Find Your Niche

Creating your author platform begins with some introspective activities. Readers might be tempted to skim over these initial exercises, but they are valuable even if you have already engaged in some platform-building activities. They can help you refine your strategies and your targets so that your work is even more effective in raising your visibility.

Build Your Platform

Katz discusses many different ways you can get the visibility you need to be a viable candidate for a book deal. Her suggestions seem mainly targeted toward nonfiction writers, but she does give some attention to the needs of fiction authors. Some of the top suggestions are writing articles, teaching online and face-to-face classes, and volunteering for local writing and content area organizations.

Get Over Your Fear

Many authors fear selling themselves and networking. These activities don’t come naturally to Katz either, so the lessons she provides can help all but the most introverted authors come out of their shells and market their book effectively.

She reminds her readers that no matter how scared they might be, they are the ones responsible for the level of success they have as a writer. Thus, they are the ones who have the responsibility for marketing their work and themselves. The key is to do it with integrity and to integrate the passion you feel for your subject and your work.

Release It to the Public

Katz closes with the public face for your platform. She walks you through building your identity, providing related services, and, yes, creating your website and blog. She touches on social networking and other trends in book marketing.

This book is the only one that discusses platform building before a writer has been published, and for that reason alone, it is required reading. Imitators will likely follow, but you will be at least one step ahead by reading this book, completing the exercises, and applying what you learn to your platform.

Online Jobs – Earn Money at Home Via Data Entry Work

Filed under: Working Platforms Articles — thailand @ 5:45 pm  Tagged

Today’s world pushes us through a rapid pace facing cutthroat competition in every arena of life. The result is that we learn to be competitive and spirited ourselves, starting right from school it flows over through our college education and career.

This leads way to the possibility that most of us turnout to be multitasking and multi-talented in many areas. But once we have settled into a career, they environment becomes stagnant with the openings for multitasking being limited. Many of our sharp edged technical skills remain unused.

Online jobs have evolved as a vital platform for seekers of service providers in an extreme but crucial number of domains. The variety of work offered is incredible, as well as its inconceivable that anyone can gain access to these options by having access to a computer and internet connection.

The projects available via internet can be in such diverse array of areas as Data entry or data processing, market research, translation work, copywriting, proof reading, web designing, project management, legal advice, system Administration, Audio Services, Photography, telemarketing, electronics etc.

For a person with interest in multiple projects in Information Technology the options available are .NET, C/C++, Virtual reality projects, Java, Link Building, Perl/CGI, graphic design, visual basics, website security, Flash, ASP, Cold Fusion, Delphi, Graphic Design, Linux, Python, Telemarketing, Visual Basic, Windows, Audio Services, Handheld / PDA, JSP, Logo Design, PHP, Script Installation, Wireless, Banner Design, J2EE, Website Design, XML etc.

The advantage is that you do not have to limit yourself to one of these categories. As I mentioned earlier, if you are multi-skilled then you can take up multiple project in multiple fields. This should not only help you hone your talent it can also be a source to earn amazing remuneration by taking up the projects of your choice.

So a person who has the knowledge and experience to implement wireless technology can also work on a project in web designing if he has the know-how. This is not possible or practical in our regular job environment where usually you are bound to a single project which is often chosen for you by others. Not only are you limited to a project, your work could be narrowed down to the implementation and execution of a single phase or just part of a project instead of a complete one. This often leads to a shunted growth in honing the skills in other areas of your expertise.

Online jobs open up the possibility of taking up projects in different fields that can help your individual growth rather than a team growth. And the choice of projects is left out to you rather than having it chosen for you. So let’s not limit ourselves to what we considered obvious, with a little research and revision, you can easily grab on to a chance to sharpen those multi tasking, multi talented skill sets you have developed all your life.

Get the Truth About Free vs Self Hosted Blogging Platforms

Filed under: Working Platforms Articles — thailand @ 2:00 pm  Tagged , ,

WHAT ARE FREE BLOGGING SITES?

They are sites where you can create an account and become a member for free. Your blog becomes a sub domain blog, meaning that there is a main domain and you are a secondary blog on that domain. Everything you do affects (benefits) the main domain.

Some examples of free blogging sites (platforms) are blogger.com and WordPress.com. They are really great because there is very little technical knowledge required in setting them up. Basically, you create an account, choose a template, and start writing. For those of you who are looking to stay connected with family, write about your life, or connect with others around a hobby or any other non-business related activity, you cannot beat the free blogging sites.

WELL THEN, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

First and foremost, and probably the most serious of all is that the blog is never really yours. You have no control over the advertising on your free site (and there will be advertising), and if there is any money generated by the ads, you do not get it. And you cannot sell anything from a free blogging site.

On a more serious note, if you decide later to change to another site, you will have to change your blog name as you cannot take a name.blogsite.com type of domain name with you. You will also lose your established traffic and people will have to find you once again.

Speaking of traffic, (which affects your ranking on the internet) all of the traffic you have generated by your hard work at blogging only benefits the host, meaning that you do not get any ranking in the search engines for this traffic you have built up.

Some of the less serious problems with free blogging sites are that there can be a lot of spam, and they usually offer very little bandwidth (speed at which you can move around in a site), customization, or template choice.

HOW DOES IT BENEFIT ME TO USE A SELF-HOSTED SITE?

Well, you own the blog. You can do what you wish with it, including building it into a blogging machine and selling it.

I think that the most beneficial aspect to a self-hosted blog platform like WordPress.org is that you can customize it and make it your “website”. That’s right-no more spending lots of money on having a website built. No more charges for updating content on your site. No more waiting to have the updates completed. You can do it all yourself!

Since self-hosted blogs are extremely search engine friendly, all the traffic that is generated by your blogging and attracting visitors to your site is now yours. Your traffic helps you to get rankings in the search engines because each blog entry alerts the search engines to go to your site to “crawl it” for new content, thus building traffic due to the higher rankings, and around and around it goes.

You can look like a real pro with your own email address at your own domain name. You maintain your branding, build legitimacy, and you are taken seriously.

If you choose to have Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising like Google AdSense on your site, you get to keep the money, because basically you own everything about your domain.

HOW, YOU ASK?

I won’t go into a lot of details about the technical aspect of it, but you will have to trust me that you can do it if you choose to. (I am a Virtual Assistant so I must remind you to outsource, outsource, outsource the tasks you don’t want to and don’t have time to do).

Basically, you activate the WordPress.org software at your host site. You peruse the WordPress site for templates and plug-ins (these make your site functional) and then upload them to your host site as well. There are 3 or 4 very important plug-ins that all sites need.

Now you are ready to go. You go to your browser and type your new address into the address bar. You will log in to your new site at the “dashboard” where all the controls are. You activate your plug-ins and widgets, create some pages, and upload any graphics, video, and content you wish to have on your site. Sort it all and arrange it how you like and you are ready to blog.

The dashboard is very easy to work in so every time you want to add content, you log in there, use some drop down menus to choose what it is you want to do whether add a new page, or blog about your business, and then you do it.

You can create pages such as “About Us”, “Our Products”, “Contact Us”, “Blog”, and so on, just like a traditional website. Some pages can remain static if you like and some can be changed daily. Your blog posts will always go to your blog page though.

Of course this is the simple view of having a self hosted site, but it isn’t much more difficult than that. You may need some assistance figuring out how to upload to the host site, and maybe even in activating the plug-ins, but very few people would have problems writing and publishing their blog posts, and that I know for sure. Additionally, if you have purchased hosting with a really good hosting company, their support team will be willing to help you with the uploads.

Sharepoint – the Ideal Platform For E-learning

Filed under: Working Platforms Articles — thailand @ 1:45 am  Tagged , ,

The Return of E-Learning

Many companies and organisations are following the Microsoft led trend and installing SharePoint. They have employed consultants, given the project a witty name, uploaded documents from the last century, designed forms for every task and become SharePoint groupies. Everyone in their organisation is now using SharePoint with information now freely available and presented in a more ‘funky’ way. But now these businesses they want more from this powerful application. What else can it do now they have invested so much in it?

One interesting area where SharePoint can excell and something that all Corporate and Public Sector organisations need is – ‘Training’. Whether it is the correct way to climb a wooden ladder or how to use the new Purchase Order system people will always need training. The cost of instructor led training is not always cost effective though, so a few years ago buzz word became ‘E-Learning’. It was going to be the next big thing in Training, but in many ways it failed to really take off, much to the relief of many Training Managers. PCs and especially slow internet connections were just too unreliable. Also the standard of courses, were to say the least, uninspiring with often just very basic multiple choice questions and graphics that were about as appealling as the Testcard in black and white.

PC, internet connections and flash animated courses have moved a long way forward in the last few years making E-Learning yet again a very appealling proposition, but still many companies have not taken the step forward. The reason for this standoff so often is cost because they need to buy expensive Information Management platforms like Knowledgebridge from Websoft. Very good systems capable of producing very good E-Learning systems, but what else can they do? Try to get them to store your Management Meeting Minutes or perform workflow on your expense forms and you realise that it is just an E-Learnign system.

Microsoft sees SharePoint as the ideal platform for E-Learning and have worked with a number of Partners to try to fill this gap. They developed the SLK (SharePoint Learning Kit), but even the most skilled SharePoint Engineers would find it difficult to turn this into a working E-Learning system.

Enter Competentum and their award winning product ShareKnowledge. A fully Microsoft Integrated solution that takes SharePoint and the SLK and makes a complete E-Learning system. It can design courses, assign course to employees, mark tests, manage training, monitor employee career development and all on a front end, ‘SharePoint’, that the user is comfortable to use. It really is the training tool of the future and so easy to use. You don’t need to be an ‘IT Geek’ or an ‘Arty Design’ to create courses. The software does most of the clever stuff all you need to do is know the answers to the questions.

Officetalk is now bringing this software, which is already used in Moscow University, to the UK and you can find out more about it at [http://www.office-talk.com/pages/shareknowledge.html]
